Getting Authorship is an excellent way for your helpful blog posts to stand out and get noticed by registering your authoring email with Google+. It’s a great way to show your audience you stand behind your posts by putting your photo right next to your content when it shows up in search engine results.
It looks like this when it shows up in Google’s search engine results:
And here’s how you can do it:
Step 1. Get A Google+ Profile
First, we are going to set-up a Google+ account that links your email that you will be writing content under by listing it as an alternative email in your Google+ profile. If you don’t have a Google+ account you can register to get one at: https://plus.google.com/
Add your email associated with your content to your profile and add the url of the content site to the Google+ profile “contributor to” section.
Note: The url of your Google+ profile page is the same url that you will use later on to identify your Google+ profile in your WordPress users profile.
Step 2. Sign Up for Google+ Authorship
Use the Google+ authorship tool to submit the email you use to create content:
https://plus.google.com/authorship
note: Google will send you an email that you will need to verify your email address before this all works.
Step 3: Install The Yoast SEO plugin on your website
If you haven’t already set-up an SEO plug-in you can find all the details to do it at:
http://yoast.com/wordpress/seo/
Step 4: Link Your WordPress User Account to Google+
Log into your WordPress site admin dashboard page with your username that you use to create posts and click on the “Users” profile tab to add your Google+ “profile url” info to your WordPress user account profile. This is where you will paste the url of the Google+ profile you created earlier.
Now check and make sure it works by entering a url of a blog post you created with the registered author username and email in the tool located on the following page:
http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets
If it works then you should see your photo and name next to the post.
