4 Questions to Ask When Connecting with Your Readers

Connecting with your readers is very important. When I first started writing these blog posts, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to say. I wrote so many versions of my blog posts, trying to get it right. But I knew something was missing … it was the vital “connection to the reader” that I just couldn’t pinpoint. Until one day, it hit me … I’m already doing what I want to do. All I had to do was just talk about what I’m already doing! This is the audience I was looking to connect with in my blog posts.

They say that we come up with ideas because of needs that we see in our daily lives. When you want to build something its typically because of a need you saw and something you wish existed. In this case, you are your own best audience. If you’re building it for someone else … well, then listen to what they have to say, because your client is a representative of the audience will read it. Its also important that your client authentically evaluates this point. It’s the fundamental “need” that the client has that must be represented. You need to associate with your audience and understand them in order to build an experience that gets and keeps their attention while serving their needs. One way you can do that is by building a customer character in your mind that is a composite representation of an actual member of your audience.

Ask yourself the following 4 questions:

1. How do they think?

2. What do they want?

3. What are they looking for that you have to offer?

4. What are their biggest challenges that they are looking for you to solve?

This is your customer we are talking about. This is who you must connect your idea with.

Appeal to your audience by speaking their language. Don’t get too technical on your website. Write the words on each page so everyone can understand what you’re talking about. Use terms, layouts, and pictures that your customers can appreciate.

You really want to make sure that your audience feels understood.
